3D-PRINTED LIGHT OBJECTS
WHAT IS 3D-PRINTING?
Laser Sintering involves the fusion of tiny particles, powder resin in the case of SLS (Selective Laser Sintering) and liquid polymers for SLA (Stereo-lithography), by computer controlled laser beams. During this ultra high-tech process, the object is built (printed) in minuscule layers - much like an inkjet printer deposits layers of ink on paper - until its 3-dimensional body emerges as one piece.
The resulting 3D-printed light objects are absolutely unique and nothing short of mind-blowing, not only in the way they are designed and created, nor because of the sheer mathematical complexity of their structures or because of the incredible beauty of their illuminated bodies and light display, but very much so because of what they represent: the unlimited potential of today's digital technologies, which transform the most complex virtual product concepts into actual 3-dimensional objects.
Laser Sintered lights have always featured strongly in the Within4Walls Collection and we have taken great pride in being able to offer you an extensive and unrivalled choice of what must be some of the most spectacular, fascinating and truly extraordinary lighting products of our time. These 3D-printed lights were designed by various renowned designers from around the world with the majority so for two of the very first specialist design and manufacturing companies in this field, MGX by Materialise and Freedom of Creation, with whom we have collaborated since our foundation. Many 3D-Printed light designs have been purchased by some of the world's top design museums such as the MOMA (Museum of Modern Art), the V&A London and the VITRA Design Museum to form part of their permanent collections.
Sadly, nowadays only a fraction of this former choice of iconic 3D-printed lights still exists. Production of all the FOC and most of the .MGX models has ceased, with only a few of the original .MGX designs still available (we do keep some very last remaining lights) But other 3D-Printed lights are still being produced today, notably by our Italian partner exnovo, and you will find some beautiful examples here in our lighting collection.
